Mittmaster Level 1 pad drills
1.Numbering system
A simple system to speed up pad training for boxing, kickboxing or mma. Allows you to call quick sequences or numbers rather than using the techniques name. For example cross, hook, cross would be 2,3,2 in the numbering system.
2.Chaining Drills
How to chain the basic numbers together to create infinite combinations. This makes your padwork faster and more fluid.
3.Eight Boxing combinations
These eight boxing combinations are the most common high percentage finishing combination used by athletes in all striking sports.
4.Integrating the uppercut
The uppercut is the most under utilised strike in boxing. Learn how to integrate this devastating punch into your arsenal.
5.Double pad trigger drills
Trigger drills make your pad training automatic allowing you to fire quickly and accurately.
6.Punching variations (jab, cross, hook & upper cut)
In order to stay unpredictable you need variety in both your attack and defence. This section covers 3 variations of the basic punches
7.Kicking variations (front, round, side)
The same unpredictability applies to kicking as well, so we have included different ways of performing the front, round and side kicks to keep your opponent guessing.
8.Covers & counters
Covering or blocking is the first defensive skill you need to learn in order to avoid getting hit cleanly. We cover blocks against body shots and swings to the head and powerful follow ups designed to punish immediately.
MIttmaster Level 2 drills
Slipping Punches
These drills focus on slipping punches. When you slip a punch it leaves both hands free to counter immediately and is a safer strategy than blocking as you don’t take any damage.
Rolling
Rolling or "bobbing and weaving" enables you to avoid hooking punches. By rolling you go with the force of the punch, duck underneath it and come up on the other side ready to counter.
Sectoring
Sectoring is an advanced concept focusing on simultaneous slipping and hitting. When you sector it enables you to avoid a strike and counter attack immediately, half way through you opponents punch.
Pulling Traps
Pulling traps work when your opponent extends their arm to block. This enables you to manipulate their straightened arm and create and opening to strike.
Pushing Traps
Pushing traps also occur when your opponents arm is extended, but in this scenario, you push their arm out of the way, giving you space to strike.
Wedging Traps
Wedging traps happen when your partner assumes a tight compact guard. In this situation it is possible to ‘wedge’ their arms in place creating multiple options to counter.
Slipping and Ripping
Slipping and ripping is an explosive combination initiated when you slip your partners punch and counter with devastating body shots.
In and Out Drills
In and out drills are based on the understanding of distance. The drill is designed to get you within striking range, then safely exit before your opponent counters.
Fakes
Faking is an advanced skill that causes your opponent to freeze or over commit defensively. Giving you the opportunity to land effective combinations.
Kick Sectors
There is a right time and a wrong time to kick. In order to maximise impact, you want your opponent to walk into your kick. Kick sectoring teaches you this essential skill.
Belly Pad Drills and Combos
The belly pad, which is frequently used in Thai boxing, is a very useful bit of equipment because it allows you to integrate body striking and pad work making pad training multi-dimensional.
